Sorry for the very late posting, but a NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen about noon on Sunday (12/16) during the Jug Bay CBC. It was south of Jug Bay near Nottingham, at the end of a hedgerow just north of the junction of Nottingham Road and Candy Hill Road. We were carefully studying a flock of about 100 Am. Goldfinches when we spotted this bird on the ground. It had caught a goldfinch & flew off with it in its feet. It flew up high above the treeline, eastward toward the Patuxent River. We lost sight of it fairly quickly when our sight was blocked by trees near the road & we searched for it, unsuccessfully, for about 20 minutes. Others spent time in the afternoon trying to relocate it, also unsuccessfully.

Cheers,
Hal & Lynn
