Two Snow buntings have been consistently showing up at a feeder at a home
just outside of Centreville.
I continue to see two Red-shouldered Hawks along Rt. 213 at the pond just
South of the intersection with Rt. 301. (The pond has been very empty of
waterfowl, but I did see an Eagle at the water's edge on Wednesday.) This
morning I also had a Kestrel on the wires and a Red Tailed Hawk in the trees
and the 2 Red Shouldered Hawks, all within 1/2 mile.
On the same trip, I stopped for a freshly killed (blood was still red and
'fresh') Barred Owl that was in the middle of the road. Its left eye was
diseased or infected and the bird was very thin.
The birds seem to sense a coming weather event. There appear to be more at
the feeders and a couple of newcomers. Two Chipping Sparrows and a Cowbird
... yes, a Cowbird. I have not had one at the feeders in a couple of
months.
