MNPS Annual Winter Solstice Walk - Chapman State Park, Mt. Aventine Area, Charles County - Saturday, December 22, 2007



Present: Carole Bergmann, Luke Bergmann, Bonnie Bick, Bill and Jane Hill, Marc Imlay, Dwight and Kirsten Johnson, Jim Long, Julie Moore, Tom Raque, Marv Rubin, Rod Simmons, Meghan Tice, Peter and Martha Whitney, Ken Wright, and others.



Birds observed (39 species):



Great Blue Heron

Canada Goose

Scaup sp. (on the Potomac - didn't have 

            optics powerful enough to specify)

Bufflehead

Turkey Vulture

Black Vulture

Red-shouldered Hawk

Red-tailed Hawk

Bald Eagle (1 adult; a nest seen that will 

            be checked in Feb)

Wild Turkey

Ring-billed Gull

Belted Kingfisher

Red-headed Woodpecker (several in the 

            swamp along the Potomac)

Red-bellied Woodpecker

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker

Downy Woodpecker

Hairy Woodpecker

Northern Flicker

Pileated Woodpecker
