25 December
After I finished one of my winter counts yesterday I walked around the
impoundments(starting to fill in) to see if any thing of interest was
present. Met a non-birder I know ( but someone who knows at least some
birds), walking his dog. He reported that he had seen a shrike, presumably a
northern, a couple days ago perched along the N-S dike. I looked for it
without any success, but they have such a large winter territory I could
have easily missed it.
When I first started coming here years ago a Loggerhead Shrike was
often present in the parking lot during the winter, but those days are long
past.
