Hi Everyone,

I made my first trip to the Eastern Shore for the year, joining forces
throughout the day with Zach Baer, Tom Feild and Geraldine, Matt Hafner,
George Jett, Dave Powell, Jim Stasz, and Matt Tillett. All of the best
birds have already been reported recently, including in Jim Brighton's
post from yesterday (Common Eider, Harlequin Ducks, Eurasian
Collared-Doves, etc.) Two LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLs were on the beach
close to the state park parking lot on Assateague. The Ocean Pines pond
was hopping, with 1350 CANVASBACKs and 5,000+ Ring-billed Gulls. The
HARLEQUIN DUCKs really stole the show, and I'm very pleased with the photo
haul from the day:

Matt Tillett will be posting his photos at

Late in the afternoon, Jim Stasz spotted an interesting hawk east of
Hurlock that may have been a SWAINSON'S. The location is just east of the
town of Hurlock in Dorchester Co. Take 392 east from 331, and the bird was
on the south side of the road between 392 and the sharp right of Medford.
With the well-documented December 18th sighting, there is some chance that
there is a wintering Swainson's in this area. Any further attention that
can be given to the area would be well-deserved.

Have a good week!

Bill
