News that the Carroll County Times is trying to do a good job with reporting
of birding activities is welcome news indeed. Over here in Talbot County
our people at the Easton Star-Democrat newspaper are also showing
significantly greater interest in birding and other nature activities
recently. We should all be doing whatever we can to encourage that kind of
reporting. One of the Star-Democrat photographers has taken a strong
personal interest in getting nice photographs of nature scenes in our
region, often including birds in those scenes. That probably helps, but I
suspect there are other reasons also. Someone amongst the editors must also
be realizing that reporting on nature is good for their paper sales too.
That is a very nice trend to see, and it would be great if newspapers around
the state could be persuaded to give good coverage to nature/birding news.

Today's Carroll County Times has a cover story w/photo of David Smith and

even
give the results of the count. Now that's what I call news that counts for

something.
