A Merlin flushed up from the ground along the river at the National Arboretum this morning and then perched in a tree to give good looks. There was also a Red-tailed hawk perched in a tree as I headed toward the NY Ave. exit.
There was one male Hooded merganser on the lake (though it had disappeared when I got back to my car an hour later), a Double-crested cormorant on the river, and two Yellow-bellied sapsuckers, one in the Asian collection and one in the Holly collection. Also heard two calling red-breasted nuthatches. A raw but enjoyable morning!
