I went and drove the field areas north and east of Hagerstown this afternoon. No Sandhill Cranes. I was however treated to an immature Northern Goshawk on Leitersburg Pike just south of Marsh Pike. Further to the east I found three 'Richardson's' Cackling Geese in a flock of Canada Geese and Mallards. My eyes must have been as big as dinner plates when a big long legged bird landed in the field with the waterfowl. It turned out to be a local Great Blue Heron that is usually in the creek. Most the snow has melted in the fields, as a result I was only able to find three Horned Larks, I had hoped for better.

Good birding,

Hans Holbrook
