A week ago I was standing at my favorite spot at Violette's Lock on the 
Potomac. As usual there were a number of duck hunters shooting from the shore 
rather than from boats. One of them walked up to me and pointed at the flotilla of 
Ruddy Ducks that had been hanging out there for a while (getting far too used 
to people walking the towpath) and asked me if they were ducks. I told him 
they were Pied-billed Grebes, and he went on his way.
