Since I'm off today (I know - what's unusual about that?) I am tempted to
walk the same route I took at Soldier's Delight again just to see if it will
be any different. However we're supposed to be about 8 degrees warmer and
the wind is notably less. I would think that might get the birds up out of
the brush they were hiding in yesterday.
I recieved some nice stories from people who have had similar "walks " on
lousy birding days. However I will not be going to any trash dumps in the
arctic or whatever. I'll probably get Ravens (again) next weekend on the
Frederick winter count so don't need to go that far north to get them.
The bottom line is that I think I have set a record. None of the stories
I was sent were quite as bad as yesterday's 1 bird total. I must admit my
half hour walk was a bit short time-wise, but I did cover some good habitat.
One birder challenged my comment that SD is "birdy". I wholeheartedly rebuke
that one. Any place on the western shore that is as reliable for Summer
Tanager as SD qualifies as birdy.
That's one of the birds I was hoping for yesterday. Honest.
