Diane and I can relate, believe me!  We'd been enjoying an occasional "concert" for several years after we moved to the Derwood/Olney Md area in 1993.  But we've not heard Great Horned Owls for several years now.  I blame development and habitat fragmentation.
We do continue to hear Barred Owls regularly, so we console ourselves with that.
