For those of you who use eBird (operated by the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology and Audubon) to report bird sightings, they have made a useful change to the program. One complaint listers have had with eBird is that, previously, if you reported a bird such as "Empidonax sp." or a hybrid on one of your checklists, it got added to your personal species lists, thus inflating your "species" totals with entries that are not true species.

This has been corrected, so eBird users can now go to the "My eBird" tab and see the right numbers for their year, world, ABA, AOU, state, county, etc. lists. There is a short article on this change at www.eBird.org . I confirmed this by checking my lists.
