Thanks again Noah!

I left your back yard around 1:15PM with the bird still hanging around
the thistle socks. It appeared rather hungry. I managed to get a
photos despite the overcast skies and I've posted them to my blog.
What a great day... 2 life birds!

Good birding,

To the many folks that braved the chill for the remainder of the afternoon, I wish he'd been more cooperative and returned. But the Cooper's hawk in the yard may have had something to do with it.

But then again, crossbill behavior is often erratic, so who knows!? If you do get a glimpse, the wait will be worth it; this is very bright, healthy looking male with an exceptionally long upper mandible.

Now we face the question whether a still higher 'standard of living' is worth its cost in things natural, wild, and free. For us of the minority, the opportunity to see geese is more important than television, and the chance to find a pasque-flower is a right as inalienable as free speech."
