Hi All,

I counted in eastern Garrett County today with Alan Grubb. Perhaps the
best birds of the day in our sector were 3 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS seen in
two locations (2 dark and 1 light). The first was a dark phase bird
near the end of Pea Ridge Road in Avilton, MD and the second two were
along Russell Road (west of Barton, MD). Of those two, one was a dark
phase and the other was a light phase. I may have been the only one of
the two of us to see the second dark phase bird as it was the highest of
the 8 hawks in the group (6 Red-tails also).

I don't know if Mikey Lutmerding will have a chance to post other birds
from the count any time soon as he is going awol soon. As a point of
getting info out ... (and I'm hoping he won't mind me posting some of
his highlights) ... he mentioned a possible Longspur (smaller bird in
flight) in the Horned Lark flock along Dorsey Hotel Road and a
White-winged Scoter at Jennings Randolph Reservoir.

I put some photos of the Rough-legged Hawks that Alan and I saw today on
my photo site ...
