On Tuesday, before the icy weather started, Joanna McGraw & I trekked down
the Mounds Trail at Merkle Wildlife Refuge in search of red-headed
woodpeckers. We found 4. One still had it's brown head.

Also seen:
downy woodpecker
red-bellied woodpecker
northern flicker
yellow-bellied sapsucker
ruby-crowned kinglet
cedar waxwing
red-tailed hawk
lots of robins
red-winged blackbirds
blue jays
white-breasted nuthatch
titmouse
Canada geese
song sparrows
white throated sparrows
swamp sparrows
Cooper's Hawk?
Cardinals

Back at home, the pine siskins fed among a couple of dozen goldfinches.
'Twas a birdy election day indeed.
