This morning I helped Mike Quinlan with his portion of the Patuxent River
waterbird survey. Our five survey points took us along the Merkle Wildlife
Sanctuary Critical Area Driving Tour
(http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/merkletrails.html).

The non-waterbird highlight for me was an immature Red-headed Woodpecker.
From the parking area for the Boardwalk, cross the road and walk back to
Catfish Pond (there's an observation area marked with a small wooden fence).
Look across the pond into the wooded area.
