I started just before dawn in Dorcester County at the end of Cedar Creek
Road (which now has a street sign marking its identity). It was very
quiet
and immediately windy. I did not stick around long enough for hawks to
begin
flying but I did manage to see a short-eared owl still flying and
flushed an
American Bittern on the drive out.

Along Maple Dam Road heading north (Dorcester County):

	E. Meadowlark
	N. Harrier
	Brown-headed Nuthatch
	Hooded Merganser
	A. Wigeon
	Gadwall
Forster's Tern (2 of them feeding in the marsh, (my FOY)
Tree Swallows were seen along the way as well as other locations
in
Dorcester Co.

Black H2O NWR
	White Pelican (11)

Cambridge Waterfront (Dorcester County)
The same Canvasbacks, Redheads, A. Wigeon, Scaup, Pintail, etc.
reported by others

Feeders in various locations in Talbot County
	Brown Creeper
	Purple Finch
	Pine Siskins

Miles River (off of Rt. 370---Unionville Road Bridge---Talbot County)
Ruddy Ducks (raft of 400 plus)
	Canvasbacks

Easton Waste H2o Treatment Facility (Talbot County)
Cackling Goose (1 for sure; may have just gotten on a second one
when most of the flock picked up and rearranged themselves)
	Redhead (2 drakes)

Rt. 309 ponds (Queen Annes County)
	A. Wigeon
	Gadwall

Rt. 213 pond (Queen Annes County)
	Gadwall
	Wigeon
Redhead (2) (Reported earlier by Danny Poet

All in all, it was a great day despite the wind.

Subject: Come see Pine Siskins in Talbot County

Hi Helen and Jim - Here is a copy of a note I sent to Kevin Graff
regarding
a visit to see the siskins on Feb 18.
The same level of welcome applies to you also. Come on over if
you
have a chance.
As I said to Kevin - I do not have to be around for you to come
on
over and see the feeders, and hopefully the birds. If I am not here,
please
send me an email to let me know if you were successful in finding them.

	Les Roslund
(Note: Today, Feb 15th, there have been 6 or more around since 8:30. It
is
1:20 as I write this note. Also, at the feeding site beside my
driveway,
just as you break out of the wooded part near my garage, I have had one
or
two Fox Sparrows recently.)

Hi Kevin -
Sure - come on by. If they are here - fine - and if not, it
can't
be helped. As you know, we can never see more than what nature gives.
However, since some of them have been hanging around since
November,
I would suspect some will still be here. They are most reliable between
10:00 and 2:00, but sometimes there are still a few around as late as
3:30.
After that time they must be finding someplace to roost for the night,
for
they seem to just disappear. Today we had six or more of them through
most
of the day.

Here is how to get to my place:

From Easton, take Rte 33 toward St Michaels. Go to the right on
Unionville Road.
The first village you come to is Unionville. In the village,
take a
left onto Tunis Mills Road. Continue until reaching a stop sign.
At the stop sign, turn right, and cross the wooden bridge (this
is
Leeds Creek) and continue about 1/4 mile to Copperville Road. Turn to
the
right onto Copperville Road.
Continue about 1/2 mile on Copperville Road until you reach
Martingdale Lane (this is in the village of Copperville). Turn right on
Martingdale Lane, and continue down a tree-lined lane to the end. That
is
my place, on the waters of Leeds Creek, and with a circle driveway.
The feeders are on the side of the house that faces the water.
The
best ones are tube feeders hanging under a second-story deck. These are
very close to the house. I would recommend parking near my metal garage
and
walking to the house, in order to keep from scaring the birds away
before
everyone gets good views.

Come on over, and help yourselves to the viewing. I do not have
to
be there, though I probably will be around.
If I am not there, please send me an email afterwards to let me
know
if you found the siskins.

Note: The birds seem to be on the move, for my Goldfinch numbers
were also quite high today, as others have been reporting.

Les R.
