At 11:30 this morning, I found 2 Red-shouldered Hawks calling and soaring
over my yard, soon to be joined by a Red-tailed Hawk. One of the
Red-shouldered drifted away but the remaining one and the Red Tailed took
turns strafing each other with talons extended. The Red-shouldered hawks
were not a surprise because two have been here most of the winter.
Two minutes later, a third Red-shouldered flew over. A short walk down the
road produced 3 more Red-shouldered and one more Red-tailed.
Continuing the morning walk and about 1/4 mile down the road, crows flushed
a Cooper's Hawk and then another Red-tailed sailed into view.
Withing a span of 10 minutes, I had 6 Red-shouldered, 3 Red-tailed and 1
Cooper's. And no, they were not just circling around for me to count again
and again. ;-)
Possibly signs of northward migration?
