Hi All,
The Kent Bird County Bird Club will be making an all day excursion
tomorrow (bring some lunch) to bird Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge
and its environs. The Delaware Bay shore is justifiably famous for its
wetlands and the Prime Hook area, lying between the more famous Bombay
Hook and Atlantic beaches from Cape Henlopen and southward, is a
sometimes overlooked gem. Last year we observed 86 species on this trip
including 18 waterfowl species (over 1000 Green-winged Teal), Iceland
Gull, Northern Shrike, 2 Merlins, and some early Glossy Ibises. Recent
sightings at Prime Hook have included Ross's and Cackling Geese, and
Gambell's White-crowned Sparrow. Nancy and I will meet folks locally at
8:00 AM at the parking lot of the Dollar General store east of the
traffic light at Spring Street on MD-213 in Chestertown. If anyone
wishes to meet us at the refuge HQ north of DE-16 just west of Broadkill
Beach please contact us. The current weather prediction for Saturday is
for temperatures in the upper 50s and a brisk S wind so wear layered
clothing. It may rain a bit so rain-gear would also be wise. We hope to
see some of you on Saturday.
Good Birding,
