Hughes Hollow (McKee-Beshers WMA) has been good this month for
waterfowl. So far I have recorded 14 species and I know of two other
species that have been seen. This doesn't include Pied-billed Grebe and Am.
Coot.
On Sunday (3-16) I had 12 Canada Geese, 2 Mallards, 8 Am. Wigeons, 2
Wood Duck, 4 Blue-winged Teal(FOY), 4 Green-winged Teal, 2 Canvasbacks, 4
Redheads, 650 Ring-necked Ducks, and 1 Lesser Scaup.
On Friday (3-14) the large number(700) of ring-necks was there in
addition to 4 Ruddy Ducks, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 2 Pintails and larger
numbers of Canvasbacks (11), Redheads (10) and wigeons (38).
It may take some time to work through the ring-necks but it should be
worth it.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Montgomery County questions/advice
Yesterday I found out that one of my colleagues has a 14 year old son who
has an active interest in birding. Dad is a non-birder but wants to
encourage this interest and is looking for activities/programs that are
geared for teenage birders in Montgomery County.
Also, I am going to try and chase waterfowl tomorrow morning in Montgomery
County. I am going to have limited time (3-4 hours). Any suggestions of
specific places to look along the C & O canal to make the best use of the
time would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if a quick trip to Black
Hills would be worthwhile or not.
Please send any suggestions not of general interest off-line to me.
Thank you!
