The highlight from my morning walk around Schoolhouse Pond was a group of
five Blue-winged Teal. The Blue-winged Teal joined the group of Green-
winged Teal that has been at the pond the last few weeks. Other ducks
present included a pair of Wood Ducks, Shovelers, and Mallards. Both the
Trumpeter Swan and Mute Swan were also present. When I arrived, two Bald
Eagle were perched in a tree at the rear of the pond. An Osprey later arrived
and circled repeatedly over the pond.
Four or five Wilson's Snipe probed the mudflats at the rear of the pond, and a
Killdeer was also present. Songbirds included several Phoebe, a Swamp
Sparrow, an Eastern Towhee, a few Yellow-rumped Warblers, and several
species of woodpeckers.
