This morning I birded in the scrubland & wooded area of PVSP/Sykesville.
Highlights:
Forest Interior Birds:
Louisiana Waterthrush (heard only) 4
Palm Warbler 1 seen by river
Also heard a VIREO. I heard the call clearly 4-5 times (tried to record it
on my flash memo stick but quality is very poor). The tempo was very slow
like a YTVI but the notes were higher & clean. The call that I heard sounded
very much like the recording for the Blue-headed Vireo on the Birds of North
America site. The Yellow Book shows only BHVI as likely for this date.
Suggestions appreciated, (I have never heard a Blue-head Vireo before).
Scrub Birds:
Brown-thrasher 1
Tree Swallows in hot pursuit of a Sharp-shinned Hawk.
Two adorable Red-breasted Nuthatches (m&f ?) are still visiting my suet
daily. I fret over their imminent departure. Perhaps they would stay if I
provided them with an air-conditioned nestbox.
