As incredible as it sounds, I saw a Seaside Sparrow along the boardwalk at Patterson Park today. It tried to keep hidden in fallen reeds and under the boardwalk. This is a life bird and an amazing addition to my Patterson Park location list.
A man told me how he hooked a duck while fishing the other day. He then described the Lesser Scaup to other day. "...it couldn't get free so I had to reel him in and pull hook out his side." The Scaup appears to have a damaged right leg that it is holding straight back, level with the water. Did it learn from the encounter? Well, it swam within five feet of another guy feeding the Mallards. Maybe it's just that hungry.
