This morning I birded around Cumberland, getting out to the North
Branch of the C&O and Rocky Gap State Park. I noticed right away that
Eastern Towhees were back when I arrived at the North Branch at
7:00AM. Most notable at the North Branch were 3 BLUE-WINGED TEAL.
Also, one EASTERN MEADOWLARK was singing in the lawn near the
cemetery.
At Rocky Gap, Lake Habeeb wasn't exactly hopping with action but what
was there was worth the trip. A lone BONAPARTE'S GULL was present on
the lake. Also, one OSPREY and 2 adult BALD EAGLES were fishing the
lake while a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK called in the distance. Waterfowl on
the lake included 4 RING-NECKED DUCKS, one HORNED GREBE, 2 PIED-BILLED
GREBES, BUFFLEHEAD, and HOODED MERGANSER. Also, I noticed TREE
SWALLOWS had returned and were quite active selecting nest boxes. The
highlight of the morning came when I went to look for PINE WARBLERS
and I wasn't disappointed as I found at least 6, including two pairs
(male&female). I was delighted as these Pine Warblers gave me ample
opportunity to snap some photos. (Pictures can be seen here:

Good Birding!
