This afternoon I observed an adult American White
Pelican at the mouth of Aquia Creek, Stafford County,
Virginia. I was at Aquia Landing Park looking north.
The pelican was very close to the far shore (north
side of the creek mouth), on private property, and was
foraging and swimming for at least half an hour. It
was still present when I headed back to the car.

When I arrived home, I saw the emails about the 14
American White Pelicans seen over Woodbridge about two
hours before my sighting. My bird was probably less
than a half mile from the Maryland boundary.
According to the DeLorme atlases, across the Potomac
from the mouth of Aquia Creek are Smith Point on the
north and Thomas Point on the south, in Charles
County.

Maybe it will head over to Charles County?

Cheers,
