The spring work weekend for the MOS Irish Grove Sanctuary has been
scheduled for April 12 and 13. This is a great opportunity for some
terrific birding along Rumbly Point Road and on the Sanctuary
property or even nearby Chincoteague, while also helping spruce up
the sanctuary house and trails. Dotty Mumford, who is organizing the
weekend, will be at Irish Grove from the afternoon of the 10th,
returning home on the 14th. You are welcome to stay overnight at
the sanctuary house. (There are new beds.) Last year, on this
weekend, we found 2 yellow rails singing in the marsh, and we will be
looking for them again this year.
Projects are centered on trail maintenance, including pruning,
boardwalk construction, and spreading sand on trails. Tools needed
will be shovels, rakes, pruners, saws, hammers, etc. We will also be
looking for property markers, so people with either surveying skills,
or with a metal detector, will find their skills much
appreciated. You would need to bring your own breakfast. Lunch
(soup & sandwiches) and dinner (spaghetti) will be provided on Saturday.
Please let Dotty know if you are planning to
attend: or 410-849-8336. For more information
about Irish Grove, visit the MOS website, www.mdbirds.org .
