Hi Everyone,

I spent Sunday (4/6) birding in the perpetual drizzle with Tom Feild, Dan Haas, and Matt Tillett. We began at Hoopers quite early to try for the White-faced Ibis, but had no luck during two fairly thorough checks. We followed the dawn heron flight to West Ocean City Pond, and then ran back for a quick check of the Inlet. Our highlight, as posted by Dan yesterday, was an adult male HARLEQUIN DUCK roosting near the hotel. After trying for the ibis back at Berlin, we continued south and birded back roads through Somerset to Deal Island. Here we enjoyed great studies of the WHIMBREL found by Hafner, Stasz, et al. It was feeding on many small snails and grubs that it was probing for in the grass. Who knew there was that much curlew-food in a patch of lawn? I just posted a cool series of photos of the Whimbrel feeding, as well as one shot of the Harlequin, on my site:

After Deal, we were running late, but we caught the Whitehaven Ferry into Wicomico and worked points along the Nanticoke. Here are the eBird lists from each site, removing many of the most expected species for brevity's sake.
