It turned out to be an excellent morning for the Anne Arundel Bird Club-
sponsored field trip to the Little Patuxent Oxbow Lake Nature Preserve on
Saturday, April 12, 2008. There were a few brief moments of light showers,
one period of heavier showers, and a lot of sunshine. Most of the participants
were Oxbow-virgins (had never visited before). Three local participants had
never before walked past the observation area. Jay Sheppard and I were the
guides for the morning and our goal was to introduce everyone to some of our
favorite places to bird around the lake.

The biggest disappointment was the absence of Trumperter Swan #960. He
was not seen on April 11-12, 2008, which might signal his official departure
and ultimate return to Ontario, Canada.

By the end of the morning, everyone was tired and hungry. The afternoon
option was deferred for a future field trip.

Most of the birds were seen/heard by everyone. A few were seen/heard by
Jay before the walk kicked off; a couple were seen as the walk was ending.
