My friend Chris Murray and I set the alarm clock for some morning
birding around the region. The birds that put on the best show, or
were the most interesting get capital letters. We started out at
Waterworks Park, MD in Annapolis where we saw...

Canada Goose 6
Wood Duck 3
Mallard 5
Pied-billed Grebe 1
Great Blue Heron 4
GREEN HERON 1

Red-shouldered Hawk 1
Red-tailed Hawk 1
American Kestrel 1
Herring Gull 2
Mourning Dove 5
Belted Kingfisher 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker 1
Downy Woodpecker 3
Pileated Woodpecker 1

Swamp Sparrow 1
Red-winged Blackbird 28
American Goldfinch 4

While traveling West on 450 out of Annapolis, we stopped at the head
of the South River in Anne Arundel County. I would NOT recommend
doing this as the traffic can be a bit nuts. But at this early hour
on a Sunday, it wasn't so bad. We saw...

Wood Duck 3
Osprey 1
Bald Eagle 1
BARN SWALLOW 11
Carolina Chickadee 2
Eastern Towhee 1
Red-winged Blackbird 27

I've heard that PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS set up shop near that little
bridge on Gov. Bridge Road over the Pax River. Reading all of the
reports on MDOSPREY, I had high hopes, but they were not singing there
yet. Nor were there any LOUISIANA WATER THRUSH. I've yet to find
them in AA County this year.

Red-bellied Woodpecker 1
Downy Woodpecker 1
Pileated Woodpecker 1

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 2
NORTHERN PARULA 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler 1
White-throated Sparrow 2
Brown-headed Cowbird 2

After driving on Defense Highway out of Annapolis, we wanted to drop
by Governor Bridge Road Park on the Pax River to see if that BLUE
GROSBEAK was still singing (See BIRDCOUPLE'S report from yesterday).
Warren, Lisa... the bird no doubt was snickering on some tree top,
purposely hiding and not singing I am sure.

Turkey Vulture 5
Red-tailed Hawk 1

After a coffee refill, we hit a very quiet Schoolhouse Pond in Upper

crowded (people-wise).
