Hi all,
Another new species flew over the yard about 45 minutes ago. A trio of very
high COMMON LOONS flew across a cloud heading north, at about 2:10 PM. This
is a species I usually see migrating in the AM hours. When I first saw them
my initial thought was Broad-winged Hawks, but when I put the bins on them,
they were most definitely loons, and flying in direct flight. This was yard
bird(s) #90! I hope to hit 100 before our one year anniversary in the house in
late June. After that, things get tough.
I stepped out of my shop about 11:30 for some fresh air, and watched with
binoculars as an adult Bald Eagle flew over the yard, heading south (?), and
also saw a single American Kestrel, a Red-shouldered Hawk and at least one
(probably local) Red-tailed Hawk, along with both vultures and a Barn Swallow,
all these heading north.
