There were LOTS of birds of all sorts today on the Mall. Highlights:

Everywhere, pretty much

Large flocks of Dark-eyed Juncos and Chipping Sparrows, with one or
two Field Sparrows thrown in.

   Flocks of Common Grackles

   American Robins

Flying past the Washington Monument:

   An Osprey

Constitution Gardens:

In the pond, along with the usual Mallards and Canada Geese, a few
American Coots, the pair of American Wigeons that have spent the winter
there, ditto the male Shoveler, and also a female Lesser Scaup and a
female Hooded Merganser. Among the trees towards the Lincoln Monument,
a Yellow-rumped Warbler, a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and several Palm
Warblers (the yellow kind). A Cooper's Hawk soared over the reflecting
pool, but didn't seem to disturb anyone.

DC Veteran's Memorial:

Phoebes behind the horse barn, two Brown Thrashers near the monument,
a Pine warbler among the trees by the monument. Several Northern
Flickers and several Golden-crowned Kinglets. (what have I not seen
this year yet? A Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Where are they?).

A great day to be out and about,

  Jim
