Andy,

Very cool! I think your other call is a Wilson's Snipe.

Please keep us posted on the great work as the season progresses!

Subject: [MDOSPREY] night recording over Gaithersburg, 4/11/08

Weather and conditions permitted me to record for migrants last night
for the first time in about 3 weeks. I was very interested to see what
would be passing over since I have never been able to record much during
this part of April. In 2006, I did not really get things figured out
until early May and in April 2007, the weather was not conducive for
good recording between April 1 and the last part of the month.

It was a good night for Hermit Thrush movement. I would guesstimate that
more than 50 passed over between 12 AM and dawn. It was reminiscent of
good mid to late May night when Gray-cheeked/Swainson's are coming through.

Other birds detected that I can ID include sparrows (Song, Dark-eyed
Junco, Chipping, and a few Savannah, but no White-throated yet), a
Black-crowned Night-Heron, a Ring-billed Gull, and a couple dozen
American Robins.

Also recorded another call I cannot identify and posted it at my
website:
http://nightmigrants.com/main/page_species_calls_mystery_call_2.html.
The background hiss is pretty bad but you can still hear the call
through it.

Good birding,
