From noon to 4:30 pm today my brother Joe and I counted migrating hawks at CVP. As
usual, most of these birds were very high and difficult to see. Of particular interest was
the territorial behavior of the local Red-tailed Hawks as they escorted migrant Red-tails
off their turf. Talon drop and undulating flight displays were seen several times, and one
Red-tailed Hawk dove and made contact with a Red-shouldered Hawk, which quickly fled
the area! Because of all this activity, our RT Hawk migrant numbers are probably an
under-count.

Cromwell Valley Park - Migrant raptors - 4/12/08

Broad-winged Hawk - 67

Red-tailed Hawk - 9

Red-shouldered Hawk - 2

Sharp-shinned Hawk - 14

Coopers Hawk - 3

Osprey - 13

N. Harrier - 4

Kestrel - 3

Bald Eagle - 1
