We had a fairly quiet morning along the C&O Canal and Potomac River at Great Falls (maybe from the rapidly rising temperature). Highlights were a female Hooded Merganser with five chicks in tow on a vernal pond in the woods between the Canal and the River, the pair of Bald Eagles apparently feeding chicks in their nest on Conn Island, lots of Great Blue Herons on the stick nests in their rookery on the Island, and lingering Ring-necked Ducks and Blue-winged Teal on the River. Pretty quiet on land with only one Northern Parula, one Yellow-rumped Warbler, and three Pine Warblers among the many Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. Complete list from my eBird report appears below.
