Hi all --

This morning's heavy rain seemed a good day to try Hain's Point, DC, in case
migrant waterfowl (or anything else) were forced down. Dodging rain squalls
we drove the Point twice and also, walked the lane between the maintenance
compound and the golf course.

The best bird was a RED-THROATED LOON, a difficult species to find in DC, in
Potomac out towards National AP, about 2/3 of the way across, with about 4
Common Loons in full breeding plumage.

Birds of interest included:

Common Loon - 7, all but one in breeding plumage
RED-THROATED LOON - 1, appeared to still be mostly in winter plumage (hard
to judge in rain!)
Double-crested Cormorant -- 20-25, mostly in Washington Channel and
Anacostia River side
Horned Grebe -- 2, breeding plumage, Potomac Side
Red-breasted Merganser - 4, all female
Caspian Tern - 1, over river
Osprey - 3, two carrying fish (herring are running)
Eastern Phoebe - 1
Brown Thrasher - 2
Eastern Towhee - 1
(the above three all near maintenance area).

Plus the usual Mallards, Ring-bills, Herring and a few GBB Gulls.
