The BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was singing as we arrived at the Zion Rd. parking
lot for Blue Mash this morning (Monday) at 7:15. It was easy to find in the
trees between the lot and the road, eating tent caterpillars. It flew and called
from other nearby trees in the time we were there, a little over an hour.
We went to Hughes Hollow in search of AMERICAN BITTERN and flushed one as
we neared the end of the dike. It landed nearby and tried to be invisible.
Several PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS were singing, many GREEN HERONS were
flying around, and it began to rain hard. We saw what can only have been two
female BUFFLEHEADS in the water.
