Hi all --

Finally there seems to be some migrant activity after many slow days -- not a overwhelming number of birds but nice diversity. The birds listed are -- with a couple of exceptions -- those we saw/heard personally, but other folks (there were lots of birders about) may have seen additional species. Addendum posts are encouraged as we would like to get a full picture of what species are passing through Rock Creek now.

Areas covered included Picnic areas 17/18 ("the Ridge"), the Equitation Field, Maintenance Yard, Nature Center, and Military Field ("the Dog Run").

Warblers (12 species):
Blue-winged - 4
Black-throated Blue -2
Black-throated Green - 5
Black-and-White - 4
Chestnut-sided - 1
Hooded - 1, singing male, very nice!
Louisiana Waterthrush - 1
Ovenbird - 6
Palm (all yellow) - 3
Parula -- 3
Worm-eating -- 4-5 , including one incredibly cooperative bird at Equitation Field
Yellow-rumped (Myrtle) -- ~45

(oddly, no Yellowthroat!)

Other migrants:
Yellow-billed Cuckoo -1
Veery -2
Wood Thrush - 1
Gray Catbird - 5
Scarlet Tanager - 8
Baltimore Oriole - 2
Orchard Oriole - 1, seen by Rob Hilton and Paul Pisano in Maintenance Yard
Red-eyed Vireo - 10
Blue-headed Vireo - 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 6
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 10
Cedar Waxwing - 6
House Wren - 2
White-throated Sparrow - 25
Chipping Sparrow - 6 (big decline)
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 1-2
Indigo Bunting - 1
Ruby-throated Hummingbird - 1, male seen by Rob Hilton and Paul Pisano in Maintenance Yard

Still many Goldfinches about, fewer Robins, perhaps 30 or more Blue Jays flying north in early morning.
