I spent the weekend in western Pennsylvania and western Maryland
attending various family functions which (unfortunately) left very
little time for birding. However, while taking a short walk (on
Sunday, May 4) around a resort community near Deep Creek Lake,
I thought I heard PINE SISKINS calling. I staked out the neighbor's
feeders and eventually saw one, feeding with goldfinches - a FOY
as well as county bird for me. An added bonus was a male
RED-BREASTED GROSBEAK (also FOY) singing nearby.

This morning, back home in Greenbelt, I heard a NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH singing along the small stream that runs in back of
the house - a new yard bird. Eventually it worked its way far enough
downstream so that I could also count it on my Greenbelt Lake list.
Other new arrivals in my neighborhood are a SCARLET TANAGER,
CHIMNEY SWIFTS, and NORTHERN PARULAS.
