Hi, I just saw this on the Virginia birding listserv.
I hope that Mr. Ribaudo doesn't mind me forwarding
this to MDOsprey

I found a clay-colored sparrow this morning at about
6:45am between 17th St. and the north side of the WWII
Memorial (at the edge of Constitution Gardens), in the
District of Columbia (I know, not Virginia, but its
close). I heard it singing first, then quickly
located it in a small
tree. I lingered over it for a while, then proceeded
to the south side
of the reflecting pool to explore the migrant trap.
It did not
disappoint, with a nice mix of birds. Skip Hyberg and
I found yellow,
yellow-rumped, blackburnian, chestnut-sided,
black-throated blue, palm, and black-and-white
warblers, ovenbird, northern waterthrush, veery,
great-crested flycatcher, eastern kingbird, Baltimore
oriole, orchard oriole, rose-breasted grosbeak,
chipping sparrow, red-eyed vireo, and warbling vireo.
