My yard list JUMPED to 61 species (from 60) this afternoon. I've only
been keeping tabs for one year now, and very poorly at that. I'm
about 324 species less than what Matt Hafner & Jim Stasz have (for my
yard). I've got a ways to go on my 1/8th of acre estate in West
Annapolis. But this afternoon, I added PRAIRIE WARBLER to my list.
After reading all of the many reports being posted lately, I'd like to
place an order for the following birds: both species of Oriole,
Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, White-faced Ibis
(why not, right?) and of course, any and all warblers that would like
to visit.

In all seriousness, I'm in awe of Matt and Jim's accomplishments over
the years. Long may the competition continue... it's quite
inspiring.

As for today's birding, in a few hours I will playing a wedding in DC.
And with the many chores I needed to finish, I had to keep my birding
light and local. I did get out for a brief bit and here are some
highlights of what I saw/heard:

Location: Honeysuckle Lane / AA County
11 AM
Hairy Woodpecker 1
White-eyed Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 2
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 2
Northern Parula 2
Louisiana Waterthrush 1

Location: Waterworks Park, MD
11:30AM -12:30PM
Spotted Sandpiper 1
Solitary Sandpiper 1
Belted Kingfisher 21
Northern Flicker 2 (using a metal chimney cover as a drum... very
impressive and loud. I might hire this bird for my next gig.)
Pileated Woodpecker 1
Eastern Phoebe 1
Eastern Kingbird 3 (2 on nest / building, loving, enjoying. 1
more causing trouble with the couple.)
White-eyed Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 2
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 1
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 3
Wood Thrush 1
Chestnut-sided Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
ORCHARD ORIOLE 2
BALMER ORIOLE 4
American Goldfinch 4

With my chores mostly-complete and no gigs, I feel confident that
tomorrow will be a lot of fun.

Good birding,
