Felt like I hit the jackpot this morning at the Azalea Gardens at the National Arboretum. Birds were singing everywhere, and sometimes giving good looks:
_ Black-Throated Blue Warbler
_ Black-Throated Green Warbler
_ Ovenbird
_ Magnolia Warbler (FOY)
_ Chestnut-Sided Warbler (FOY)
_ Northern Parula
_ American Redstart (heard only. Redstarts have clearly decided to play tricks on Lisa and I this spring).
_ Black-and-White Warbler
_ Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher
_ Yellow-Rumped Warbler
(May also have heard Bay-Breasted Warbler)
_ Wood Thrush
_ Hermit Thrush
_ Eastern Wood Peewee, heard (FOY)
_ Eastern Towhee
_ Grey Catbird (all over the place)
_ Brown Thrasher
_ White-Throated Sparrows
... And a disturbingly large # of House Sparrows.
Meanwhile, the migrants arrived in force over the weekend at Chez Strobel in Annapolis. Sunday morning we had, calling in the back woods:
_ Parula
_ Black-Throated Blue
_ Ovenbird
_ Redstart
_ Yellow-Billed Cuckoo.
This morning, Lisa heard Common Yellowthroat, and I saw the garden's first RTHU, drinking water from leaves after the sprinkler had passed..
Good Birding!
