A few colleagues and I had just finished running a few rounds on the tracks
of the Dunbar high school in northwest DC (). I was lying on my back on the
turf catching my breath when a familiar shape passed by overhead with
smooth, scything wing-strokes.

My first Common Nighthawk for the season!
