A Loggerhead Shrike spent at least the latter half of the
afternoon today at the central tract of the Patuxent Wildlife
Research Refuge (i.e., the Wildlife Research Center).
Originally spotted by Barb Dowell, the Shrike
was foraging progressively closer to rt. 197 when the
last observers departed. This location is about 0.5 miles
east of the intersection of Powdermill Rd. and rt. 197.
While bird sightings on center are typically not posted
(due to restricted public access), there's a promising
chance that this Shrike might appear over the weekend
at the south tract (Cash Lake/Visitor's center...where a
Northern Shrike was found this winter). Good luck and
good birding.

Cheers,

Dave
