Whenever I kayak near Pleasure Island (just south of Hart-Miller) I expect to
see the Craighill Channel Lower Range Rear Light covered with pigeons,
cormorants, and gulls. This morning? Nothing - not a bird in sight. As a
friend and I paddled past, however, we spooked a pair of Peregrines from the
top of the lighthouse, then watched as they soared in the strong winds
around the tower. Now we know why the tower was snack-bird free...
I also saw three Least Terns and four Osprey.
Good birding,
