The rule that Ross is referring basically means that 5% of the total birds seen by a competing team do not have to be observed by every person on the team but at least by two people on the team.  Since the Black Tern was only seen by Mikey it was not countable.  The birds that we used the 5% rule were Nashville Warbler, Kentucky Warbler, Blue-headed Vireo, and Bluebird.
