I still had not seen my favorite warbler, Blackburnian, this season,
so I decided to go to Soldier's Delight today. On the red trail a
little beyond the old mine, I hit a nice pocket of warblers and got
great looks at Blackburnian, Magnolia, Chestnut-sided, Nashville and
Pine Warblers, and an exceptionally bright American Redstart all in
the same few trees. This was such a good show I ignored the Summer
Tanager singing down towards the big trail intersection. Over the
course of five hours and about 3 miles I picked up 16 warbler species.
A surprising miss was Yellow-breasted Chat. I also had a few well-seen
Swainson's Thrushes.

The pleasantest surprise was an excellent look at a Lincoln's Sparrow
in perfect field-guide plumage near Red Dog Lodge on the white
trail -- probably my first sighting ever in spring in the East. So it
was interesting to read about Matt Hafner and Bill Hubick's sighting
the same day.
