   I birded across northern Carroll County today with Debbie Terry. Grassland birds have become very scarce. Here are the highlights:

Canada Goose  60, Study Rd farm pond, more than half of these young of various ages
BLACK SWAN  1, Cranberry Reservoir, wasn't there a few days ago
Wood Duck  16, including 12 downy young, all at Flickinger Rd
Common Loon  1, immature, Cranberry Reservoir
Great Blue Heron  1, Stonesifer Rd
Green Heron  2, Flickinger Rd & New Windsor
Sora  1, heard only, Union Mills wetland
Solitary Sandpiper  1, John Shirk Rd
Red-headed Woodpecker  3, a pair on Sixes Bridge Rd & 1 at Keysville
Willow Flycatcher  several, at Alesia, Unger Rd, New Windsor
Warbling Vireo  4, Mumma Ford
Purple Martin  3, Little Pipe Creek Park
Blackpoll Warbler  5, heard only, at five different locations
Northern Waterthrush  1, upper Prettyboy Watershed near River Valley Ranch
Vesper Sparrow  1, singing on territory, Stonesifer Rd
Savannah Sparrow  1, singing on Territory, Reifsnider Rd
Grasshopper Sparrow  8, Basehores Mill Rd, John Shirk Rd, & other locations
Swamp Sparrow  1, heard only, singing on territory, Union Mills wetland
Bobolink  1, male singing on territory, Keysville-Bruceville Rd
Meadowlark  4, scattered singles including Sixes Bridge Rd X Mumma Ford Rd
