Fortunately I decided to stay home today instead of chasing birds in other parts of the state. I visited Piney Run Park for a few hours and saw more transient warblers and thrushes than I have ever seen before in a single day in the county. I could double the warbler count of 12 by going to other areas to add the local breeders. This is further evidence of the lateness of the spring passerine migration here caused by inclement weather that has delayed the passage of so many birds. Many of these birds set late county departure date records. Judging by the reports coming in from Rock Creek Park and other locations this could be true everywhere.

Yellow-billed Cuckoo 3, heard only. I had heard only one before today.
Gnatcatcher 2
GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH 7, all silent
Swainson's Thrush 12, three of which also called
Wood Thrush 4, one seen, others heard singing
Parula 2, one female seen, other heard singing
Chestnut-sided Warbler 2, males, singing
Magnolia Warbler 8, seven males & one female
CAPE MAY WARBLER 1, male, singing
Black-throated Blue Warbler 1, female
Black-throated Green Warbler 1, heard only, singing
Blackpoll Warbler 22, one male & one female seen, others heard singing
Redstart 7, one adult male, three immature males, one female, others heard singing
Ovenbird 1
Northern Waterthrush 1
Yellowthroat 6, one male seen, others heard singing or calling
Canada Warbler 3, males
White-throated Sparrow 1
