The prospect of yesterday's Bay-breasted Warblers at Cylburn was tempting,
but I took a chance that they'd be gone this morning and headed instead to the
local migrant trap, Milford Mill Park, for what is probably the last chance
to enjoy the end of this great passerine migration. It was quiet there too,
but there were just enough birds to make it interesting. A NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH was singing just off the trail in the same spot where one was last week.
Two TENNESSEE WARBLERS (foy), at least one a yellow-washed female, were
foraging actively near the trailhead. Also near the trailhead was a LEAST
FLYCATCHER, silent at first but heard CHE-BEKing as I returned to the lot. Two
BLACKPOLLS were the only other migrant warblers, and one SWAINSON'S THRUSH was also
seen. Residents were PARULA, OVENBIRD, YELLOWTHROAT and HOODED WARBLER, the
continuing YELLOW-THROATED VIREO at the trail bend, numerous WOOD THRUSHES and
2 VEERIES.

Later I went up to Liberty Reservoir in Carroll County to look for Bob
Ringler's Summer Tanager. Either I didn't go far enough or it wasn't singing near
the trail. But a singing male KENTUCKY WARBLER on an exposed perch was nice.
On the way home I checked out the nesting CLIFF SWALLOWS under the old Route
32 bridge.

Now I'm feeling like a kid on December 26.
