I spent a few hours on Sunday morning checking out the Common Ravens on the Cabin John water tower as well as the Peregrines on the American Legion Bridge and the Double-crested Cormorant colony just downstream from there.

The two Raven chicks are ready to fledge. They spent much of the time when I was watching pumping their wings (a good idea when your home is 150ft above ground level). Still, with the gape spot visible and the brownish cast to the plumage very distinct, they still look quite different to their parents. Some pics are here, mainly so you can get an idea of where they placed their nest:

Only one Peregrine - probably the male but I was not sure - was present at the AL Bridge in the 20 mins I was there. The cormorants were on the nest but I could not make out any chicks that had hatched. The river level is too high still to get a good vantage point.

Nice to have all these nice nesting birds within walking distance!

Good birding
